About Us

All around the world, women share the same rights. The right to live a life free from violence and slavery; the right to be educated; the right to earn a fair and equal wage; the right to own property; the right to expression and freedom to vote and to be voted for.

Standup for Women Society is a networking forum created as an umbrella to promote women affairs and influence the minds, actions and practices of the general public at various government levels to support and ensure fair share responsibilities to women.

What We Do

to achieve the women's right in Nigeria, our focus are:

One of our focus is to educate women to know their human rights and avoid taking laws into their hands. Women in Nigeria have had various challenges to get equal rights in the society, most especially in the office, marital homes and so on, most times their effort ended fruitless while some took laws into their hands by killing or maiming their tormentors and they end up in jail, serving jail term or life imprisonment.

When women lack economic autonomy, they face an increased risk of violence and limitations to their life choices. Having an independent income is key for women to exercise more control over their own lives. Stand up for Women Society (SWS) know that food consumption, clothing, shelter and basic medical facilities are very important for women and their children.

Violence against women and girls is pathetic. It occurs in Nigeria and across all groups and classes, affecting 1 in 3 women in their lifetime. At Stand up for Women Society (SWS), we lawfully stand against, discourage and stop domestic violence. Domestic violence, rape and other forms of sexual violence, female genital mutilation, early and forced marriage, economic control, coercion and emotional abuse which always happens to women should be eradicated from a modern society like today.

Women have a right to engage in civil society, vote in elections, be elected to government office, serve on boards, and make their voices heard in any process that will ultimately affect them, their families, and their communities. Investing in girls’ and women’s right to political participation is a necessary step to achieving global gender equality and democratic governance.
